Our History

A 35-year love affair with the land.

When Dennis Burt came back to his hometown after serving in the military in the early 1980s, he began his life-long affair with farming and ranching. Dennis started out small, and gradually grew his operation into more than 350 head of cattle grazing on a 3,500+ acre ranch in North  Central Kansas.

He and his wife, Rosemary, have raised their three sons in the cattle business and now even enjoy their grandchildren loving the land and animals they built their business upon.

As experienced cattle ranchers, Dennis and Rosemary have seen lots of changes in the cattle business, but one consistent trait they’ve always made sure of is still going strong: Ensuring you get the best feed-to-meat ratio on your cattle.

The costs of doing business continue to rise, and even in the cattle business, you need to have your livestock work just as hard as you do. Dennis and Rosemary have spent their lives investing in various breeding and feeding practices to make sure you get the best bang for your buck when buying livestock from Black Charolais Cattle. Our superior stock, both bulls and heifers, are a wise investment into your livestock bloodlines. Our Black Charolais seed roots are traced back to the famous Laue Ranch, which has a rich history in the Charolais breed.

Our Black Charolais herd contains purebred, ¾ blood, and ½ blood black balancers to maintain a great herd mix. These Charolais cattle adapt well to the harsh Kansas summers and winters, breeding strong calves that keep the breed strong. In our experience, the Black Charolais add weight faster than other breeds and produce quality livestock for you to take to market.
